Elf Cosmetics, Will You Be My Valentine?

Hello lovelies,

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! Although Valentine’s Day is typically about sharing your love with the people around you, I have decided to share my love with one of my favourite brands – elf cosmetics. Yes, I know, very untraditional! But hey, I love elf, so I’m just spreading the love 😉

Elf is one of those brands that I go to when a friend is wanting to try a new product or technique and they are newer to makeup. This is for a few reasons. One, the products are cheaper so they wont be put off by the price tag. Two, the products are actually really good for the price. And three, I personally like using the products right along side any other brand so I can give them some first hand advice.

I thought I would share some of that advice and a few of my favourite elf products that, yes I have had for a while, and love, but there are some really close matches online right now. Most of these ended up being eyeshadows, but there are a couple wild cards in here as well, so here we go!

Up first are these two absolutely gorgeous shadows. I love the colours of these two and they are in the shades Burnt Plum and Dusk. They have good pigmentation, but as I recommend with all elf shadows, they are better with a primer underneath. But come on you guys, look how pretty these are and for better than high street prices!

image

Next is another shadow and this is one of their Smudge Pots. This is in the shade Brownie Points. I am pretty sure I have talked about this one before but I am always pleasantly pleased when I come back to it. It is a gorgeous metallic gold and really pops on the eye. I normally pair this with a nice gold powder shadow to go over the top, just to set it a little better so it doesn’t crease, but again, better with a primer.

image

Another shadow for you! Now, I don’t think this is available anymore but we’ll truck on anyway. This one is one of elf’s Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks. This is the shade Turkish Coffee. I use this shadow quite often when I am feeling lazy because it is so easy to just draw on and then buff in with a fluffy brush. I will say, if you don’t wear a primer, do not expect this to stay on your eyes. This one, even more so than the others, really needs a primer. I do love the colour and the ease though, so I am quite happy with this one.

Moving on from the shadows, we have the elf Hydrating Under Eye Primer. Now, as much as I do love elf, there are always products, as with any brand, that aren’t my favourite, and I have to say this is one of them. I am not a huge fan of this product because I don’t really see much of a difference when I have used it. Let me know if any of you love this product because I’d love to hear it! I am quite keen on the packaging though, I like the plain black for this particular product, quite sleek.

This one is a big favourite. This is the elf Total Face Pallet. It is just stunning. The packaging has taken this to the next level in my opinion. The colours are also really lovely on. I think they give a very natural, feminine look, which I am a big fan of. So this is a win to me.

The last product I want to mention is the stippling brush. I think it looks lovely and professional and you really cant beat the price!

So there we have it you guys, my Valentine’s Day love affair with elf. What are your thoughts on this brand? What are some of your favourite elf products? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time guys,

July Favourites

635743193718431995_Afterlight_Edit

Hello to all you beautiful people!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day! Oh and happy August, I actually cannot believe that we are in August already…I mean, where has July gone?! I feel like this year is flying by faster than most (a sign that I’m getting older I think haha). In honour of the speedy July, here are my July favourites. I hope you enjoy some of these as much as I do!

Chanel  Rouge Coco Shine Lip Stick – 87 – Rondez-Vous: This is such a pretty pink colour, which I normally never wear (I always go for the berry shades…seriously, almost every lip colour I own has ‘berry’ in the name somewhere…) but this one is playful with just a hint of Barbie but not OTT if you know what I mean. So I have been liking this shade with a pretty natural makeup look to give it a little extra pop. I also love the Rouge Coco Shines because they feel so so good on the lips. Its really smooth and creamy and just feels luxurious. If you own one of these bad boys already, you know what I’m talking about.

Coconut and Vanilla Cream Scented Candle: So this is a steal of a deal and a gem.  I am so happy with this that I am actually going to go back and buy another one and I have only burned through about 1/4 of this one. Where? might you ask did I get this lovely smelling beaut….Primark. yep, that’s right, 2 pounds at Primark. Ladies and gentlemen….you are welcome.

WP_20150804_20_38_24_Raw

Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter – Golden Lights: I picked this up because I just needed a highlighter I could throw in my overnight bag and not care if it got left behind. It was cheap so I thought “yeah, I’ll give that a go.” I am one of those people who sees cheap makeup and thinks “its probably not that good, or it would be more expensive” which is actually so ironic since I always buy drug store makeup…..hmmm. Anyway, this highlighter is gorgeous! It has this gold undertone that looks really natural but is super effective at the same time. Def give this a try if you are in the market for a new highlighter.

Noxidoxi Enhancing Serum Base: This product (and the next one) came in my Glossybox this month and I was so excited, and still am, about them. This one is basically a really hydrating serum that is meant to tighten pores and give an antioxidant protection to the skin. Its a base, so I’ve just been putting it on under my moisturizer and I love it.

WP_20150804_20_39_48_Raw

Teoxane Perfect Skin Refiner: So this also came in my Glossybox and I love, love, love it. It is a skin renewal cream that you use at night and it is amazing. When I wake up in the morning I can still feel it on my skin, but not in a think, gross, oily kind of way. It is just a lovely feeling and my skin is so soft the next day. I just feel like this is a super luxurious product and I am going to have to buy the full size (goes for 70 pounds) when my sample runs out! This is my favourite of the favourites so that is saying something.

WP_20150804_20_37_54_Raw

Rimmel London Colour Rush – 500 The Redder, the Better (and have to mention 200 Keep Muaving): I love Rimmel lip colour. These lip crayons though….mm mm mm!! They feel great on the lips, super smooth and moisturizing and not sticky at all. They also smell so good! I don’t know about you, but I find most lip sticks to smell pretty bad, but these almost smell like vanilla, huge bonus! I’ve been struggling to find a brighter red that suits me and the 500 is the perfect shade, so happy I found this and have been loving rocking the red lip this month. I also have to mention the 200 because its basically my everyday colour ❤

WP_20150804_20_35_25_Raw

Portable Charger: Pretty self-explanatory really. It is great to have in your purse at all times. So when my phones dies and I’m out, I can just plug it into this and poof, dead phone no more! Super practical and why doesn’t everyone and their moms have this (or maybe they do) but I am always having people ask me what it is and want to know where to get one. They are everywhere if you know that you are looking for it! I got mine off of amazon, but I would go for one with a longer battery life than this one as it typically can only do one charge before it needs to be plugged in again. But I’ve been loving it.

So there you have it folks, my July favourites. I hope you like some of these products or one of them has made you think about giving something new a try. Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought. And of course, don’t forget to let me know what you have been loving this July!

xx

June Favourites

Hello everybody! I am so excited about this post. I mean all of my favourite things in one place that I get to play around with and gush about…..yes!! So I think I’m going to just jump right in!

1. Lush Face Masks

I know that everyone sings their praises when it comes to Lush, everything smells so fresh and clean and it works so well. Not to mention that it is all cruelty free! This month I tried two different masks: the first was the seaweed and rose petal and this one is more more a really good moisturise and hydrate. It is also supposed to be good for a little bit older skin, perhaps some wrinkles. You guys, this mask was absolutely amazing! My skin has never in my life felt as soft as it did when I washed this bad boy off of my face. seriously, my mouth fell open and I couldn’t stop feeling my face for a good 5 minutes. Highly, highly recommend. I also tried the Blueberry, this is just a general face mask and it pretty darn nice as well. I love that there are the little chunks of blueberry in there because it just makes me feel like I am putting really natural and safe things on my skin. There is something about knowing that the product is actually good for your skin that makes it that much more likeable. I do have to point out that not all of these are vegan, so if you are trying to keep it plant based, make sure to read the ingredients since some use egg. I will definitely keep rotating through the different masks (I think I am going to go for the almondy one next, I cant remember what it is called!) but the seaweed and rose petal is currently my absolute fave. They go for about £6.75 I believe are supposed to last for 6 uses (so 2 masks per week for 3 weeks), and this is a complete steal in my opinion! I mean clearly, I have endless positive things to say about Lush….and end rant.

2. Benefit Rollerlash Mascara

So just to add to the hype and countless others who have talked about this mascara…..it is so good! Huge fan. This mascara isn’t clumpy, it really lengthens and separates the lashes and I feel like this gives more a natural look while still really vamping up any make up look. It is a bit more spendy than say the Maybelline ones (which I still love), I think it is about £19.50 at the Benefit counter in John Lewis, but it still isn’t overly expensive and it is totally worth the extra few pounds. If you haven’t yet, and need a new mascara, definitely give this one a try.

3. Pur Concealer

I haven’t really used a lot from this brand. My mom got me the concealer and some powder foundation and I fell in love with them almost immediately. I am not really a fan of liquid foundations since I can feel them on my face so a powder is my go to and this is honestly pretty darn great. It is really long wearing and I use this under my eyes to set the concealer. It stays on for ages and does an excellent job of whiting out the dark circles under my eyes. It is a 4-in-1 make up and it has SPF in it, so hello to protecting your skin without even thinking about it! The concealer is very much the same story. It is really creamy and lovely on the skin and does a very good job covering up the circles under my eyes. I also use it cover any redness around my nose and it just blends really well into the skin so it looks really natural and clean. I have these in the colour Porcelain as I am very white (I’m talking absolutely no tan what-so-ever).

4. Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Under eye corrector crayon

Oh. My. Gosh. This stuff is amazing. I just cant even (haha sorry..). As I said, I don’t like to wear liquid foundations since I just don’t like the feel of it, and this is a nice in-between job for under the eyes. Its a crayon that you just swipe on  and then blend in with a brush (or your finger) It is honestly like a little magic stick. I can throw this in my bag and it is so tiny and i don’t need to worry about remembering a brush or anything like that since i can just give it a quick blend. It is amazing for giving that highlight under the eyes as well since it is such a light colour. I believe it only comes in the one colour and I am going to go out and buy about 10 more of these. Really pleased I found this product and will definitely continue to use this one.

5. The Body Shop Body Mists

The Body Shop. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. They had a sale on this month in the shop near me and I just couldn’t resist. I was drawn in because of their new scent ‘Virgin Mojito’ since I love the smell, it is really fresh and summery and yummy (go give it a try if you can, I really don’t think you will be disappointed). While i was in I started spraying the body mists, you know, as you do when you are in the Body Shop, and I ended up coming out with three bottles. I go the Satsuma, which is a Body Shop staple in my book, the Coconut and the Brazil Nut. I have to say I am totally in love with them all but the Brazil Nut is my favourite. It is honestly so good I just want to eat it. I give myself a bath in this stuff basically before I leave the house, and it is just a light enough scent that it still inst offensive even though I am drenched in it. So amazing. Yummm! I am starting to drool just thinking about it.

6. Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Ok, I have to be honest…..this isn’t just a June favourite….this is a LIFE favourite! But since this is my first ‘favourites’ I thought I was obligated to include it. The Vanilla Cupcake scent is my fave but to be honest, I love most things Yankee Candle. The Vanilla Cupcake is something that I do keep in my house at all times though. I am still probably a good 5-7 burns away from finishing up my current candle and I have already bought a replacement for it. I cant really say a whole lot about this other than: if you haven’t already found this candle in your life, you are missing out, now go out and stick your nose in it! (That sounds kind of rude huh…? haha)

7. Soap & Glory Products

I’m not going to say a whole lot about this since my last post was solely based on these, but they have been my favourites this month so I thought I would give them a plug again. If you missed my last post about these, you can read about the products I am using here.

8. Skin Co. Truffle Gommage

This one was a complete accident of a find. I was rummaging through the skin care/beauty section of TK Maxx and came across this little treasure on sale no less. I had never heard of this before but I love truffle everything pretty much so I grabbed this up and decided to give it a go. It is basically a moisturising exfoliator. You rub this into dry skin, so I do this after I wash my face and pat dry and the little beads ex-foliate while the cream soaks in. Then you just use a damp wash cloth to remove the excess and boom, your skin feels soooooo nice! Seriously, my skin is so soft and I would recommend this to everyone. Total testimony to some of the great stuff you can find in TK Maxx and why it is therefore, my favourite store of all time.

9. Tea Tree Wipes

Picked up these babies at Superdrug and they are kind of a life savoir. So quick and easy to wipe down my face if I am feeling a little grimy. I use these in the morning right before putting on my moisturiser and make up just to make sure my face is as clean as  it possibly can be. They are tea tree so they are really good for any blemishes and sensitive skin. My only thing is that they have quite a strong/distinctive smell. I’m not opposed to it, but think its only fair to give a warning that you will smell the tea tree for a minute.

10. PINK Coconut Oil conditioning hair and body oil

Last but not least is this PINK hair and body spray. It is an oil but it is very dry so it doesn’t feel oily at all on the skin and it really works to add that extra moisture. It also makes your hair nice and shiny and it smells so nice! I am a huge fan of anything coconut so, to me, this smells delicious. I know we don’t have a Victoria’s Secret in Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter…) so it might have to be an order online thing. My mom brought this over from the states for me and I am so glad she did! I will have to get my hands on some more of this before too long!

WP_20150709_18_46_27_Raw

And now to end the longest blog post of all time! Let me know what you guys think of these products if you have tried them or if you have any suggestions of things that I should try this month. I always love hearing new ideas and what other people are loving. I hope everyone is having a great week! 🙂
