Beauty Without Cruelty: Brand Review

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. It’s snowing where I am right now if you can believe it! What a better time to do a review post than sitting at home warm and snug away from the cold of the snow?!

The post: brand review. The subject: Beauty Without Cruelty.

I found this brand because, as you guys know, I love cruelty free, vegan products when I can find them, and this brand caught my eye. The whole ethos is based around cruelty free cosmetics, how cool is that?! I have tried out a few of their products (all vegan) and wanted to share them with you! Let’s get to it!

Concealer: The first thing I tried was the cream concealer pencil. I have to admit, I wasn’t totally sold on the idea of this product, but when I tried it, it quickly became my favourite of the bunch. It’s really soft so it goes on easily, which is good for under eyes. I actually love using this product as a highlight, so it’s perfect to brighten under the eyes and give the cupids bow a lift. I’ve found that it’s light coverage, but using it as a brightener is perfect!

Foundation: As you know, I don’t wear foundation that often because I hate the feeling of having something all over my face. We may have found a solution. This foundation is a slightly more liquid-y formula in comparison to my other foundations, but I like it because it is so weightless. I don’t feel like I have something caked all over my face, in fact, I don’t feel it at all! It is light to medium coverage as well so its good for days that you want to just give a nice, subtle even skinned, natural look.

Powder: The translucent powder is also something I see myself using quite often now. You get a good amount of product and I like using this to set the foundation and concealer. Again, it doesn’t feel like I have anything on my face, so I am a fan! I also really like the packaging of this product, doesn’t it just look pure and natural?

Eyeliner: The soft kohl pencil is exactly as I’d expect, nice and soft so it’s really easy to apply. It isn’t waterproof, so it can smudge easily, so be aware of that, but I’ve been using it to just enhance the lash line and it looks nice. I have this in the colour Walnut so it is great for getting a really natural look. I’ve even used it to contour! No complaints from me here!

Mascara: The first thing I noticed about this was the applicator brush. It’s this cool kind of wave cut out, which just looks edgy! This mascara is quite soft and feels nice on the lashes. I often get eye infections and have to be extra careful about keeping my eyes clean. The fact that this mascara is vegan, and has natural ingredients makes me so much more comfortable using this product as opposed to another less natural product. It doesn’t offer a lot of curl, but when I give my lashes a good pre-curl it tends to hold up quite well and it defines the lashes, so it is great for a no-makeup makeup look.

Lips: BWC also have a range of lipsticks. This one is in the colour Pomegranate and it is a pretty bright pink. It is really pigmented and it has a nice finish on the lips. I would caution, that they are very pigmented, so the colour might end up being a bit different than you expect from the pictures on the website. I like that the main ingredients in this are natural oils (like jojoba and caster seed oil), so I feel better about wearing this lipstick knowing that it’s a natural product.

Hair: I also tried out the Rosemary, Mint and Tee Tree shampoo and conditioner. When I saw this scent on their website, I was so excited because mint anything is going to be a favourite of mine. I also really love tee tree since it has healing properties, and of course rosemary, mmmm, three of my favourite scents rolled into one! You guys, these products have such a strong smell. When I opened the box, I was immediately hit with the smell of rosemary. It was great. After using these two products, my hair felt so light and soft. I also just love of the feeling of a conditioner with mint because of the cooling effect on the scalp!

A big thank you to BWC for sending these products my way!

Overall, I am impressed with this brand. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I have enjoyed using these products. If you are looking for a cruelty free, vegan brand, this one is worth giving a try. Have any of you tried the Beauty Without Cruelty products? If you have, what did you think? Let me know if you have any suggestions of brands to try!

Micro Ulta Haul

Hello friends,

Today was a good day. Why? Because I got to get my shopping shoes on and get myself back into the beauty world of course! Although, it wasn’t in a big way because I only bought four items. But still, it’s a start! So let’s dive in. Here is what I got:

NYX Contour and Highlight Pallet:

I have seen this on a few YouTube videos and I really liked the look of it so I wanted to give it a go for myself. I am pretty excited to use this (and review it for you) because of the different shade options. I think its going to be a good little contour/highlight go-to!

Revlon Finishing Powder:

Long story short, I just needed a finishing powder and this was the only one I could find today, so this is what I ended up with. I haven’t seen any reviews or videos on this off the top of my head so I am hoping it is a good one, but I am excited to try it out and let you know! I am especially curious to see if the 16 hour stay claim is true or not!

John Frida Sea Salt Spray:

I have wanted some sea salt spray for a hot minute, so today I found this little bottle on sale and just went for it. I am going to go wild with some sexy, beachy waves, just you wait…. well, I’ll try anyway and trying is what counts!

Mario Badescu Face Spray:

I was on a mission to find a hydrating face spray and let me tell you, it was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. Ulta has quite a lot of stuff but they were really lacking in the face spray department. I only found about four options and out of those I decided to go with this bad boy. It was small and inexpensive (only 5 dollars) so I thought it would be good to try it first to see if it actually works. I’ve used it once today and it seems quite nice actually so I think I will like using this one. Yay!

I have also made a little video over on my YouTube channel, so if you want to listen to me talk about my shopping trip today, here it is:

So, what do you think guys? That is my micro haul. Good? Have you guys tried any of these products? Let me know if you have and leave a comment below if you want to see any reviews for these.

Until next time guys,

Review: PINK Conditioning Hair/Body Oil

Hey guys,

Today I am sharing the PINK hair/body oil because it deserves a bit of love, even if  it is an oldie. I have had this  product for  quite a while now but with a lot of  moving and chaos going on, it was put in a box and forgotten about for a while. I found it again a few weeks ago and omg  I still love it. The problem is, I cant find it anymore! What a complete travesty! Im so bummed. It looks like VS is selling a weightless hair oil, and that  might be worth a shot.

I love how versatile this product is. I can spritz this in  my hair after a shower to add some extra shine and I  can also spray it on any dry skin areas for an instant pick me up. I have to say that I actually like the smell, its  not too oily or too strong.

Let me know if you have tried this and have found a good dupe. I hope VS decide to bring something like this back soon!

Review: Maria Nila Hair Masque

Hello everybody!

It has been a little while since my last post. Life has gotten so busy! I have been caught up with projects at work and Christmas excitement and just life in general. Although its nice to be busy, I have also been stressed to the max, so its been a little slice of heaven to get in the shower and have a few minutes to myself with calming music and all the lovely shower gels and bubble baths. Queue the Maria Nila Hair Masque!

I was particularly excited to try this product because it is 100% vegan and I love using vegan products when I get the chance. The packaging of this product is also really cute. It’s professional but still fun, which is personally what I look or in packaging.

I used this after washing my hair. The instructions say it’s best on damp hair but my hair has been wet every time I’ve used it and the results have still be great. I can’t say that I am a massive fan of the smell but that is only because it’s a bit too sweet for me. The cream feels luxurious and coats hair easily, which is nice because I have really thick hair so anything that goes on easy is a great help!

I notice that my hair is so much softer and shinier after I use this product and I love it! I am really looking forward to trying some more of the products from this range. It gets a thumbs up from me, so if you are in the market for a hair masque give this brand a try here.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and staying warm! Until next time 🙂

Review: Batiste Dry Shampoo

Hola everyone!

It’s Friday! Thank the lord hallelujah! I have a long weekend a head of me (doing a cheer coach training course) and wanted to share another product review before the chaos ensures. So here we go!

Batiste Dry Shampoo: I am normally against these sorts of products. Why would I want to fake being clean instead of just taking a shower….? Well, because some times life happens and you wake up to find your hair just inst as clean as you had hoped.

Recently we have been having some leaking issues with our shower and are having to take very minimal, short showers. Not so good for someone with hair halfway down their back (ehm *me*) so, sadly, my hair washing routine has been cut back. Enter the dry shampoo.

Since this is the first dry shampoo I have ever used, I cant really give you a good comparison to other products. What I can give you is an honest opinion of how this one worked in my hair and actually, I’m not too disappointed. I have used this before work in the mornings when I have woken up to not so luscious locks.  And it does make it look a bit cleaning and me a bit more put together. If I had to choose between going out without it or spraying this in my hair really quickly, I would choose the dry shampoo.

I give the roots of my hair a spray (this one has a brown tint so it doesn’t turn my hair white) and then just massage it into the roots to soak up any grease. It does give you a cleaner look and its great for a quick fix. I have noticed that this doesn’t last all day however and by the time I get home my hair is just as bad as it was before the spray.

I would say this is a good middle of the ground product as it is cheap and does a mediocre job. It has given me hope though, that dry shampoo might just have a place in my market.

Has anyone else used this product? Let me know if you agree or if you found something different, I always love hearing from you!

Have a great weekend everyone. Until next time xx

My Guilty Little Sample Secret

Hola Chicas!

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Today I am sharing a bit of a guilty secret with you and that little secret is what I like to call my Sample Box, or if I’m feeling really sassy, Heavens shopping mall. This I have to blame on my mother. Every time she gets the chance she sends me a little goody bag filled with samples, bless her heart. Thus, the sample box and my obsession with it were born. I do forget that I have it from time to time but every time I remember it’s there, it’s like Christmas morning. So here it is….my guilty little secret:

There’s a little bit of everything in there, along with some of my faves, ie: Benefit, Soap&Glory, Origins, etc. I can’t recommend asking for samples when you are out buying make up enough. A lot of places are happy to throw them in your bag at check out and its a great way to try new products before committing to buying them. Also, who doesn’t love remembering they can go shopping in their own bedroom?

So, what do you think of the sample box? Let me know if you think you might take on your own sample box and if you have found any great sample steals! Does anyone else have a guilty little make up secret?? 🙂

Eat it. Wear it. Swear by it. — My New Found Love of Coconut and Baby Oil

Happy Wednesday everyone,

Sitting here eating my chocolate coated coconut flapjack reminded me that I have wanted to write a little something about my new skincare practice: slathering myself up with coconut oil or baby oil. Ha, I’ve just read that back and thought, if that doesn’t get them interested, I don’t know what will…yikes…it’s been a long day! Anyway, people have been ranting about coconut oil for a while now so I thought I’d throw my two sense in as well.

Now, I haven’t been doing this for long, but even in a short time I have noticed quite a big change in my skin. I typically am pretty good at remembering to put lotion on, so my skin is fairly soft as it is, but I want to basically assault my skin with hydration in hopes that I can avoid stretch marks or whatever else down the road. I actually think this may be something worth the while!

So here is what I do, when I get out of the shower and before I dry off, I take this little baby:

And give myself a spritz all over. I then just rub it in slightly, then dry off and carry on with my after shower routine. Et voila! I mean who says we need to stop hydrating our skin just because we grew up a bit??

I have also really loved using coconut oil as a body moisturiser. Although this is a fairly expensive habit to get into, I actually really love it. It is a dry oil so it doesn’t leave you feeling sticky and icky afterwards (I’m thinking the feeling of olive oil for sunbathing…). It absorbs quickly and feels so nice on. Also, you smell like coconut without having to spray on perfume….Bonus!!

Here’s how to do it: take a small amount from the jar (it will be solid) and rub it between your hands for a couple of seconds, it will turn into oil. Rub all over.I put a little on the end of my hair as well. Done!

I am just loving this right now and I think my skin is loving me for it. Have you guys tried this? How do you keep your skin hydrated? Let me know!

June Favourites

Hello everybody! I am so excited about this post. I mean all of my favourite things in one place that I get to play around with and gush about…..yes!! So I think I’m going to just jump right in!

1. Lush Face Masks

I know that everyone sings their praises when it comes to Lush, everything smells so fresh and clean and it works so well. Not to mention that it is all cruelty free! This month I tried two different masks: the first was the seaweed and rose petal and this one is more more a really good moisturise and hydrate. It is also supposed to be good for a little bit older skin, perhaps some wrinkles. You guys, this mask was absolutely amazing! My skin has never in my life felt as soft as it did when I washed this bad boy off of my face. seriously, my mouth fell open and I couldn’t stop feeling my face for a good 5 minutes. Highly, highly recommend. I also tried the Blueberry, this is just a general face mask and it pretty darn nice as well. I love that there are the little chunks of blueberry in there because it just makes me feel like I am putting really natural and safe things on my skin. There is something about knowing that the product is actually good for your skin that makes it that much more likeable. I do have to point out that not all of these are vegan, so if you are trying to keep it plant based, make sure to read the ingredients since some use egg. I will definitely keep rotating through the different masks (I think I am going to go for the almondy one next, I cant remember what it is called!) but the seaweed and rose petal is currently my absolute fave. They go for about £6.75 I believe are supposed to last for 6 uses (so 2 masks per week for 3 weeks), and this is a complete steal in my opinion! I mean clearly, I have endless positive things to say about Lush….and end rant.

2. Benefit Rollerlash Mascara

So just to add to the hype and countless others who have talked about this mascara… is so good! Huge fan. This mascara isn’t clumpy, it really lengthens and separates the lashes and I feel like this gives more a natural look while still really vamping up any make up look. It is a bit more spendy than say the Maybelline ones (which I still love), I think it is about £19.50 at the Benefit counter in John Lewis, but it still isn’t overly expensive and it is totally worth the extra few pounds. If you haven’t yet, and need a new mascara, definitely give this one a try.

3. Pur Concealer

I haven’t really used a lot from this brand. My mom got me the concealer and some powder foundation and I fell in love with them almost immediately. I am not really a fan of liquid foundations since I can feel them on my face so a powder is my go to and this is honestly pretty darn great. It is really long wearing and I use this under my eyes to set the concealer. It stays on for ages and does an excellent job of whiting out the dark circles under my eyes. It is a 4-in-1 make up and it has SPF in it, so hello to protecting your skin without even thinking about it! The concealer is very much the same story. It is really creamy and lovely on the skin and does a very good job covering up the circles under my eyes. I also use it cover any redness around my nose and it just blends really well into the skin so it looks really natural and clean. I have these in the colour Porcelain as I am very white (I’m talking absolutely no tan what-so-ever).

4. Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Under eye corrector crayon

Oh. My. Gosh. This stuff is amazing. I just cant even (haha sorry..). As I said, I don’t like to wear liquid foundations since I just don’t like the feel of it, and this is a nice in-between job for under the eyes. Its a crayon that you just swipe on  and then blend in with a brush (or your finger) It is honestly like a little magic stick. I can throw this in my bag and it is so tiny and i don’t need to worry about remembering a brush or anything like that since i can just give it a quick blend. It is amazing for giving that highlight under the eyes as well since it is such a light colour. I believe it only comes in the one colour and I am going to go out and buy about 10 more of these. Really pleased I found this product and will definitely continue to use this one.

5. The Body Shop Body Mists

The Body Shop. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. They had a sale on this month in the shop near me and I just couldn’t resist. I was drawn in because of their new scent ‘Virgin Mojito’ since I love the smell, it is really fresh and summery and yummy (go give it a try if you can, I really don’t think you will be disappointed). While i was in I started spraying the body mists, you know, as you do when you are in the Body Shop, and I ended up coming out with three bottles. I go the Satsuma, which is a Body Shop staple in my book, the Coconut and the Brazil Nut. I have to say I am totally in love with them all but the Brazil Nut is my favourite. It is honestly so good I just want to eat it. I give myself a bath in this stuff basically before I leave the house, and it is just a light enough scent that it still inst offensive even though I am drenched in it. So amazing. Yummm! I am starting to drool just thinking about it.

6. Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Ok, I have to be honest…..this isn’t just a June favourite….this is a LIFE favourite! But since this is my first ‘favourites’ I thought I was obligated to include it. The Vanilla Cupcake scent is my fave but to be honest, I love most things Yankee Candle. The Vanilla Cupcake is something that I do keep in my house at all times though. I am still probably a good 5-7 burns away from finishing up my current candle and I have already bought a replacement for it. I cant really say a whole lot about this other than: if you haven’t already found this candle in your life, you are missing out, now go out and stick your nose in it! (That sounds kind of rude huh…? haha)

WP_20150709_18_43_05_Raw WP_20150709_18_43_17_Raw

7. Soap & Glory Products

I’m not going to say a whole lot about this since my last post was solely based on these, but they have been my favourites this month so I thought I would give them a plug again. If you missed my last post about these, you can read about the products I am using here.

8. Skin Co. Truffle Gommage

This one was a complete accident of a find. I was rummaging through the skin care/beauty section of TK Maxx and came across this little treasure on sale no less. I had never heard of this before but I love truffle everything pretty much so I grabbed this up and decided to give it a go. It is basically a moisturising exfoliator. You rub this into dry skin, so I do this after I wash my face and pat dry and the little beads ex-foliate while the cream soaks in. Then you just use a damp wash cloth to remove the excess and boom, your skin feels soooooo nice! Seriously, my skin is so soft and I would recommend this to everyone. Total testimony to some of the great stuff you can find in TK Maxx and why it is therefore, my favourite store of all time.

9. Tea Tree Wipes

Picked up these babies at Superdrug and they are kind of a life savoir. So quick and easy to wipe down my face if I am feeling a little grimy. I use these in the morning right before putting on my moisturiser and make up just to make sure my face is as clean as  it possibly can be. They are tea tree so they are really good for any blemishes and sensitive skin. My only thing is that they have quite a strong/distinctive smell. I’m not opposed to it, but think its only fair to give a warning that you will smell the tea tree for a minute.

10. PINK Coconut Oil conditioning hair and body oil

Last but not least is this PINK hair and body spray. It is an oil but it is very dry so it doesn’t feel oily at all on the skin and it really works to add that extra moisture. It also makes your hair nice and shiny and it smells so nice! I am a huge fan of anything coconut so, to me, this smells delicious. I know we don’t have a Victoria’s Secret in Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter…) so it might have to be an order online thing. My mom brought this over from the states for me and I am so glad she did! I will have to get my hands on some more of this before too long!

And now to end the longest blog post of all time! Let me know what you guys think of these products if you have tried them or if you have any suggestions of things that I should try this month. I always love hearing new ideas and what other people are loving. I hope everyone is having a great week! 🙂
