Review: Clinique Take the Day Off Balm

Hey guys!

I am sharing one of my favourite products with you today and that is the Clinique Take the Day Off Balm. I am sure you have all heard of the Liz Earl Cleanse and Polish, which is a fantastic way to take your makeup off and cleanse your face, BUT, when I am not using that I reach for my Take the Day Off Balm.

This product is so good for taking your makeup off at the end of the day. It starts as a balm, which I would say is very similar to coconut oil. You only need a little bit and it starts to melt into an oil as your body heat warm it up. As you work this all over your face it just melts the make up off and you are left looking a bit like a raccoon but as you wash it off with warm water, it turns into a creamy consistency and poof, makeup is gone!

I was a little skeptical about using an oil, since I do have a very oily t-zone, but this doesn’t leave an oily feeling on the skin. It just gets in there, removes all of the makeup and then washes away. Also, as with all Clinique products, it is allergy tested and fragrance free, so it does the job without causing any irritation.

After the makeup is gone, I then continue with cleansing my face and the rest of my skin care routine. So, if you are frustrated with never feeling like you truly got all of the makeup off, give this a try!

Until next time,

Review: Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Scrub

Hello Chant-ilys!

As you guys know, my face hasn’t been agreeing with me and I have been struggling with some spots. I have been trying a lot of different solutions and this one I have loved so much I had to share it with you.

This is the Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Scrub and it has very quickly become one of my savior products. It claims to give visibly clearer skin in just 12 hours. Now I wouldn’t say that it gives you clear skin in 12 hours, but it does reduce the redness and the skin looks less angry.

I use this in the morning and evening to treat the spots. In the morning I pair this with the Clearasil Rapid Action Pads to really start the day with a clean and cleansed face. In the evenings I pair it with my Mario Badescu Drying Cream (which is also amazing!)

This face scrub has little blue beads in it to exfoliate and really attack the spots and start clearing them away quickly. I also just love how fresh and clean it makes my skin feel after using it. It does have a fairly clinical smell, but I have grown to really like it as it just adds to feeling clean and fresh.

If you are struggling with some spots, I would recommend trying this product. You can find it in most supermarkets and it is only about £5.00.

Let me know what your favourite acne fighting product is in the comments below!

Until next time,

Micro Ulta Haul

Hello friends,

Today was a good day. Why? Because I got to get my shopping shoes on and get myself back into the beauty world of course! Although, it wasn’t in a big way because I only bought four items. But still, it’s a start! So let’s dive in. Here is what I got:

NYX Contour and Highlight Pallet:

I have seen this on a few YouTube videos and I really liked the look of it so I wanted to give it a go for myself. I am pretty excited to use this (and review it for you) because of the different shade options. I think its going to be a good little contour/highlight go-to!

Revlon Finishing Powder:

Long story short, I just needed a finishing powder and this was the only one I could find today, so this is what I ended up with. I haven’t seen any reviews or videos on this off the top of my head so I am hoping it is a good one, but I am excited to try it out and let you know! I am especially curious to see if the 16 hour stay claim is true or not!

John Frida Sea Salt Spray:

I have wanted some sea salt spray for a hot minute, so today I found this little bottle on sale and just went for it. I am going to go wild with some sexy, beachy waves, just you wait…. well, I’ll try anyway and trying is what counts!

Mario Badescu Face Spray:

I was on a mission to find a hydrating face spray and let me tell you, it was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be. Ulta has quite a lot of stuff but they were really lacking in the face spray department. I only found about four options and out of those I decided to go with this bad boy. It was small and inexpensive (only 5 dollars) so I thought it would be good to try it first to see if it actually works. I’ve used it once today and it seems quite nice actually so I think I will like using this one. Yay!

I have also made a little video over on my YouTube channel, so if you want to listen to me talk about my shopping trip today, here it is:

So, what do you think guys? That is my micro haul. Good? Have you guys tried any of these products? Let me know if you have and leave a comment below if you want to see any reviews for these.

Until next time guys,

Review: Balance Me Eye Cream

Hi everybody!

Today I thought I would share with you my current go-to eye cream. The Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream.

I was introduced to this brand back in March, last year and I was able to  chat with a lovely  Balance Me rep. and get a skin scan (I think that  is  what they are called. You know, the little machines that show you how your skin is  doing….?) Anyway, this showed that the skin under my eyes was a bit dehydrated and I decided to try this eye cream to sort it out. You guys, I am so glad I did because it turns out that I really like it.

The brand is a natural skincare line, which I am really drawn to because the more natural, the better, in  my opinion. I like how it feels on my skin, it feels hydrating but not sticky – I hate sticky!- and I like how it smells. I know this sounds ridiculous, but when I smell this stuff it  makes me  happy (haha). It is a really fresh and  clean scent, who doesn’t like that?! I would definitely buy this  product again! My only issue is that it is a UK brand and  I don’t  believe you can buy it in the US yet, sorry to my US readers! Fingers crossed that changes soon so I can review some more of their products for you all!

You can buy it here!

Have any of  my UK readers tried the Balance Me products? If you have, let me know what you think! Also, let me know if there are any other products you think I should try out and review.

Until next time lovelies!

Review: Bliss Body Butter

Hello everybody!

I hope you are all having a fabulous day! I thought I would talk about the Bliss Lemon and Sage Body Butter today because, well, I think you should know about it.

I first tried the  Bliss Lemon and Sage Body Wash and fell in love with the  smell. It is really strong and whenever  I got  out of the shower the whole room would smell of citrusy delight. Since I loved the shower gel so much, I thought I’d give the body butter a try as well.

This stuff smells so good. It honestly is just so fresh and citrusy that I cant get enough of it. That being said – if you don’t like citrus scents, this is not for you because it is quite strong, but I love it! It is a pretty thick formula and I  do find it to be a bit heavy, but it’s hydrating and it is great to use on your legs.

I would definitely recommend the Lemon and Sage scent from Bliss if you haven’t tried it, even just for the smell alone!

You can find it here!

Have any of you guys tried this scent? What other Bliss scents do you love? Let  me  know if the comments and I will go out and  try a few!

Review: Garnier Moisture Bomb

Hey hey it’s moisturiser review day!

Four words for you. Garnier Moisture Bomb Moisturiser. If you haven’t tried this yet, get yourself to the store and give it a shot. No need to say it but, guys, I like this product!

I first tried this about three months ago and although I don’t use it everyday, I really do like it. I feel like it does exactly what it says on the bottle. It is so moisturising and it feels very luxurious on the skin (not greasy!). I love the feeling of washing my face and then slapping this on my face. You don’t need a lot so a little goes a  long way with this bottle. I think it’s a  good night time moisturiser to prep your skin through the night. I also like that they have included pomegranate, I think it just gives the illusion that its more natural, but I still like it! And did I mention it has SPF? That’s a must for my pale skin.

You can find it here!

Have any of you tried it? Let me know what you think and any other moisturisers you are  loving at the moment.

Review: NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint

Hello everybody!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! On Saturday I headed over to Sephora and bought the new Velvet Matte Skin Tint in the colour Finland light 1. I promised in my video yesterday that I would do a  reivew, so here we go!

My first impression of this tint was that a little goes a long way and so far that is pretty accurate. I wont be using this as an all over coverage, since it’s a tint, but today I put this all over my face and I like the finish. It goes on smoothly and evenly, but I think my favourite aspect of this it is so weightless!! I have had this on all day today and I don’t feel like I am even wearing makeup! Massive bonus!

This has medium coverage for me and since I normally don’t wear all-over makeup, this is perfect! I love that it has SPF 30 as well because I always need the sun protection! It’s also so easy to blend and it looks really natural. I mean can you see a line in the picture above? I cant! This has an instant air brush effect, I mean, who doesn’t want that?!

(left- NARS : right- bare skin)

See how it does the job covering up my dark circles and redness? I’m very happy with that!

If this looks like something you might love, you can find it here!

The finished look using the Velvet Matte Skin Tint.

Overall, I am very pleased with this product so far and only have positive feedback for you guys. Have you tried this yet? If you have, let me know what you think.

Inside the Glamour Beauty Festival

Hello Lovelies!

As I’m sure some of you noticed, I spent this last weekend in London, a trip that was mainly to attend the Glamour Magazine Beauty Festival. It was such a great weekend and I want to share it with all of you lovely people, so here we go! (Also, check out my YouTube channel for an insider vlog!)

The Glamour Beauty Festival

About a month ago I bought a copy of Glamour in an airport to keep me occupied on the plane and came across their ads for the beauty festival. After looking through the pages, seeing what brands were going to attend and who the speakers were going to be, I decided to throw caution to the wind and book tickets when I got home. They were £50 for a half day and tickets included entry to the event, one main speaker talk, and a goodie bag worth about £160. I justified spending the money to go that way 😉 So I booked a plane ticket, convinced my boyfriend he needed a weekend in London, and packed my bags. It was very much a “look out world Shelby is headed to Glamour!” moment. Cue great music montage.

The day started early. I stayed at The Nadler Kensington (which was a great deal, in a lovely location and about 2 minutes’ walk from a tube stop, so it was so easy to get to everything!) I woke up around 7.30 and started getting ready for my big day out because I was too excited to sleep any longer. Looking back, I would have kept my makeup minimal since I could have had it done at the event, but I’m actually glad I did because I got a lot of compliments from the makeup artists, which was a nice bonus, am I right girls?! These were some of the makeup stations that filled a few of the rooms (Laura Mercier and NARS):

WP_20160312_11_16_42_Raw (1)WP_20160312_11_34_42_Raw

The event was held at the Saatchi Gallery and the venue was fantastic. They had really made the gallery Glamour. It was a crisp, clean and simple white theme with red details on the walls to tell people where to go and what was where. It really made the event feel classy and chic. How cute is this little tunnel:

I spent the day wandering around the gallery, listening to talks by the Glamour Magazine editors and having different treatments done in the treatment areas. A few of the awesome options I chose:

  • Have a one-to-one with a Laura Mercier makeup artist who gave me pointers on how to cover up the circles under my eyes and the best ways to finish and brighten my face.
  • Talk with a NARS makeup artist about blushers and tried out the exclusive colour Goulue.
  • Have a skin scan with a Balance Me skin care technician. This was really cool. You put your head in this fabric box (for lack of a better word) and you look in a mirror and your skin shows up in different shades of purple, so sun damage shows up as really dark, dehydration shows up as a darker shade, etc. Such a cool thing to see!
  • Do a cover shoot and end up with a picture of myself on a Glamour cover. Although I hate the picture, yes – too much to show anyone, it was still a fun experience!

There were loads of things I didn’t get to for one reason or another, like getting my hair styled (I had already curled my hair, note to self, don’t get yourself ready, let them do it!), a brow wax and tint by Benefit, etc.

Although I loved the make up areas, I was most excited about the speakers. Tanya Burr, Jim Chapmen, Pixiwoo, Naomi Smart, Jo Malone, Rita Ora and many many more were all giving talks. I couldn’t decide who to go for so I bought two tickets, one for the morning and one for the afternoon so I could go to two. I have to be honest, I was disappointed because you were only able to attend one main talk per ticket and choosing only two was nearly impossible. Especially when that was the main reason I had decided to go; to try to fit in as many talks as possible. In the end I choose to go to Jo Malone, Thea Green and Liz Earl in the morning and Tanya Burr in the afternoon. Both talks were really good and insightful. It’s nice to see the people we watch or hear about as real people, right in front of you. It makes you remember that they are someone like you or I, and that it is possible to accomplish something big if you put the effort in.

Overall, I am really glad that I decided to splurge and make a London weekend out of it. I wish I would have used it more to network but it was more of just a nice day out for yourself. What a fun event and I would definitely recommend attending something like this if you get the chance!

Were any of you at the Beauty Festival? If you were, let me know what you thought!

Aren’t You Forgetting Something? Oh, It’s Just My Neck

Hello lovelies,

Has everyone seen the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I love that film and today I am finally getting to use my favourite quote! Whoa, big day, I know. OK, ok, here it is:

“The man may be the head of the house, but the woman is the neck and she can turn the head any way she wants.”

                ~My Big Fat Greek Wedding

So this is only loosely related todays rantings but I just had to…. Don’t worry, I’m not going to ramble on and on about films today, I am actually going to talk about neck care  Yep, that’s right….Neck. Care. (far more exciting right?!….you guys, right?). I mean come on, did you not just read that quote….how important is the neck?! so why do we keep forgetting to take care of it? I know from first-hand experience that it is so easy to forget when going through your skin care routine. Maybe it’s because all of the products are labelled “face” but for whatever reason I often forgot to also treat my neck. A good few months ago now I was struck with the fear of turning into one of those older ladies who have immaculate faces and you think “phew she looks so good!” but when you catch a glimpse of their necks, it gives away their true age. I’m not really sure why, but the thought of this happening to me makes me want to soak my skin I a vat of hydrating oil like its a religion and ever since, there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by that I have forgotten to clean and moisturize my neck. It is so easily added into a skin care routine, I feel a little silly that I used to struggle so much with remembering it exists. So here is my advise, if you don’t already, take some time for your neck. In the mornings use a face wipe for a little cleanse and remember to take the moisturizer down you neck as well. At night wash your face AND neck. Use some product on your neck, just your normal toner and moisturizer are fine. You can buy products specifically for your neck (but I think those are unnecessary). The point is, if you don’t want a neck like a chickens leg in your future, take care of it! Anyway, the point is: if I have such a hard time remembering to take care of my neck, I’m sure some of you do to so I thought, let’s get a little reminder out there to show the neck some love!
