Beauty Without Cruelty: Brand Review

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. It’s snowing where I am right now if you can believe it! What a better time to do a review post than sitting at home warm and snug away from the cold of the snow?!

The post: brand review. The subject: Beauty Without Cruelty.

I found this brand because, as you guys know, I love cruelty free, vegan products when I can find them, and this brand caught my eye. The whole ethos is based around cruelty free cosmetics, how cool is that?! I have tried out a few of their products (all vegan) and wanted to share them with you! Let’s get to it!

Concealer: The first thing I tried was the cream concealer pencil. I have to admit, I wasn’t totally sold on the idea of this product, but when I tried it, it quickly became my favourite of the bunch. It’s really soft so it goes on easily, which is good for under eyes. I actually love using this product as a highlight, so it’s perfect to brighten under the eyes and give the cupids bow a lift. I’ve found that it’s light coverage, but using it as a brightener is perfect!

Foundation: As you know, I don’t wear foundation that often because I hate the feeling of having something all over my face. We may have found a solution. This foundation is a slightly more liquid-y formula in comparison to my other foundations, but I like it because it is so weightless. I don’t feel like I have something caked all over my face, in fact, I don’t feel it at all! It is light to medium coverage as well so its good for days that you want to just give a nice, subtle even skinned, natural look.

Powder: The translucent powder is also something I see myself using quite often now. You get a good amount of product and I like using this to set the foundation and concealer. Again, it doesn’t feel like I have anything on my face, so I am a fan! I also really like the packaging of this product, doesn’t it just look pure and natural?

Eyeliner: The soft kohl pencil is exactly as I’d expect, nice and soft so it’s really easy to apply. It isn’t waterproof, so it can smudge easily, so be aware of that, but I’ve been using it to just enhance the lash line and it looks nice. I have this in the colour Walnut so it is great for getting a really natural look. I’ve even used it to contour! No complaints from me here!

Mascara: The first thing I noticed about this was the applicator brush. It’s this cool kind of wave cut out, which just looks edgy! This mascara is quite soft and feels nice on the lashes. I often get eye infections and have to be extra careful about keeping my eyes clean. The fact that this mascara is vegan, and has natural ingredients makes me so much more comfortable using this product as opposed to another less natural product. It doesn’t offer a lot of curl, but when I give my lashes a good pre-curl it tends to hold up quite well and it defines the lashes, so it is great for a no-makeup makeup look.

Lips: BWC also have a range of lipsticks. This one is in the colour Pomegranate and it is a pretty bright pink. It is really pigmented and it has a nice finish on the lips. I would caution, that they are very pigmented, so the colour might end up being a bit different than you expect from the pictures on the website. I like that the main ingredients in this are natural oils (like jojoba and caster seed oil), so I feel better about wearing this lipstick knowing that it’s a natural product.

Hair: I also tried out the Rosemary, Mint and Tee Tree shampoo and conditioner. When I saw this scent on their website, I was so excited because mint anything is going to be a favourite of mine. I also really love tee tree since it has healing properties, and of course rosemary, mmmm, three of my favourite scents rolled into one! You guys, these products have such a strong smell. When I opened the box, I was immediately hit with the smell of rosemary. It was great. After using these two products, my hair felt so light and soft. I also just love of the feeling of a conditioner with mint because of the cooling effect on the scalp!

A big thank you to BWC for sending these products my way!

Overall, I am impressed with this brand. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I have enjoyed using these products. If you are looking for a cruelty free, vegan brand, this one is worth giving a try. Have any of you tried the Beauty Without Cruelty products? If you have, what did you think? Let me know if you have any suggestions of brands to try!

Until next time gang,

Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

Hello everyone!

How are you all on this lovely day? The sun in shining here for the first time in the week I have been here, so I am very excited about that!

I haven’t done a review in a while and they are some of my favourite posts to do since I get to just gush about a product, so today I am breaking the silence. Todays subject: Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.

The verdict: try it!

You can find it on SALE here!

I normally tend to stay away from the liquid liners because they are a bit easier to mess up than a felt tip liner, but for some reason I felt compelled to give this liquid one a go. I actually really like it!

I found that it goes on very easily and I love the finish that it gives. You know how some liners dull as soon as they dry and then you feel like you have to put on another coat? Well, this one didn’t seem to do that! It stayed jet black even after it dried and to me, that’s a win. It is also waterproof, so on days that the allergies are playing up, or you get caught in a rain storm, this stays on, no black lines on this face!

Another thing that I love about this product is that it is by Urban Decay and a lot of the Urban Decay products these days are vegan. I just find that I feel so much better about using products/brands that are vegan and I am thrilled that UD advertise a fair few of their products as such. On top of that, the products are amazing, so I can’t ask for much else.

I love hearing from you guys so let me know if you guys have tried this product, as well as what you think about UD advertising vegan products (do you like it? do you care? etc!).

Talk to you next time,

Review: Balance Me Eye Cream

Hi everybody!

Today I thought I would share with you my current go-to eye cream. The Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream.

I was introduced to this brand back in March, last year and I was able to  chat with a lovely  Balance Me rep. and get a skin scan (I think that  is  what they are called. You know, the little machines that show you how your skin is  doing….?) Anyway, this showed that the skin under my eyes was a bit dehydrated and I decided to try this eye cream to sort it out. You guys, I am so glad I did because it turns out that I really like it.

The brand is a natural skincare line, which I am really drawn to because the more natural, the better, in  my opinion. I like how it feels on my skin, it feels hydrating but not sticky – I hate sticky!- and I like how it smells. I know this sounds ridiculous, but when I smell this stuff it  makes me  happy (haha). It is a really fresh and  clean scent, who doesn’t like that?! I would definitely buy this  product again! My only issue is that it is a UK brand and  I don’t  believe you can buy it in the US yet, sorry to my US readers! Fingers crossed that changes soon so I can review some more of their products for you all!

You can buy it here!

Have any of  my UK readers tried the Balance Me products? If you have, let me know what you think! Also, let me know if there are any other products you think I should try out and review.

Until next time lovelies!

Review: Bliss Body Butter

Hello everybody!

I hope you are all having a fabulous day! I thought I would talk about the Bliss Lemon and Sage Body Butter today because, well, I think you should know about it.

I first tried the  Bliss Lemon and Sage Body Wash and fell in love with the  smell. It is really strong and whenever  I got  out of the shower the whole room would smell of citrusy delight. Since I loved the shower gel so much, I thought I’d give the body butter a try as well.

This stuff smells so good. It honestly is just so fresh and citrusy that I cant get enough of it. That being said – if you don’t like citrus scents, this is not for you because it is quite strong, but I love it! It is a pretty thick formula and I  do find it to be a bit heavy, but it’s hydrating and it is great to use on your legs.

I would definitely recommend the Lemon and Sage scent from Bliss if you haven’t tried it, even just for the smell alone!

You can find it here!

Have any of you guys tried this scent? What other Bliss scents do you love? Let  me  know if the comments and I will go out and  try a few!

Review: Garnier Moisture Bomb

Hey hey it’s moisturiser review day!

Four words for you. Garnier Moisture Bomb Moisturiser. If you haven’t tried this yet, get yourself to the store and give it a shot. No need to say it but, guys, I like this product!

I first tried this about three months ago and although I don’t use it everyday, I really do like it. I feel like it does exactly what it says on the bottle. It is so moisturising and it feels very luxurious on the skin (not greasy!). I love the feeling of washing my face and then slapping this on my face. You don’t need a lot so a little goes a  long way with this bottle. I think it’s a  good night time moisturiser to prep your skin through the night. I also like that they have included pomegranate, I think it just gives the illusion that its more natural, but I still like it! And did I mention it has SPF? That’s a must for my pale skin.

You can find it here!

Have any of you tried it? Let me know what you think and any other moisturisers you are  loving at the moment.

Review: Lancome Makeup Remover

Hello everybody!

I cannot wait to share this product with you so lets jump in. I am head over heals in love with this eye makeup remover. I was introduced to it a few months ago and I have not  looked back since. I have tried many eye makeup removers and have never been blown away. The best one that I had been able to find was the Neutrogena remover. Until now. Ladies and gents let me introduce you to my favourite remover! The Lancôme Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover.

This gets rid of so much more makeup with so much less effort. It’s not  as oily as other removers and the  bottle is huge so  it lasts me a while (there are smaller sizes if you want).  Yes, it is  more expensive than other removers, but you guys, it’s totally worth it! If you’re like me, and love layering on the mascara and liner, give this remover a try. You can find it here!

Let me know if you have tried this product and  what you think of it! What removers do you all love? I love hearing your guys’ feedback.

Until next time,

Classy Makeup Look

Inside the Glamour Beauty Festival

Hello Lovelies!

As I’m sure some of you noticed, I spent this last weekend in London, a trip that was mainly to attend the Glamour Magazine Beauty Festival. It was such a great weekend and I want to share it with all of you lovely people, so here we go! (Also, check out my YouTube channel for an insider vlog!)

The Glamour Beauty Festival

About a month ago I bought a copy of Glamour in an airport to keep me occupied on the plane and came across their ads for the beauty festival. After looking through the pages, seeing what brands were going to attend and who the speakers were going to be, I decided to throw caution to the wind and book tickets when I got home. They were £50 for a half day and tickets included entry to the event, one main speaker talk, and a goodie bag worth about £160. I justified spending the money to go that way 😉 So I booked a plane ticket, convinced my boyfriend he needed a weekend in London, and packed my bags. It was very much a “look out world Shelby is headed to Glamour!” moment. Cue great music montage.

The day started early. I stayed at The Nadler Kensington (which was a great deal, in a lovely location and about 2 minutes’ walk from a tube stop, so it was so easy to get to everything!) I woke up around 7.30 and started getting ready for my big day out because I was too excited to sleep any longer. Looking back, I would have kept my makeup minimal since I could have had it done at the event, but I’m actually glad I did because I got a lot of compliments from the makeup artists, which was a nice bonus, am I right girls?! These were some of the makeup stations that filled a few of the rooms (Laura Mercier and NARS):

The event was held at the Saatchi Gallery and the venue was fantastic. They had really made the gallery Glamour. It was a crisp, clean and simple white theme with red details on the walls to tell people where to go and what was where. It really made the event feel classy and chic. How cute is this little tunnel:

I spent the day wandering around the gallery, listening to talks by the Glamour Magazine editors and having different treatments done in the treatment areas. A few of the awesome options I chose:

  • Have a one-to-one with a Laura Mercier makeup artist who gave me pointers on how to cover up the circles under my eyes and the best ways to finish and brighten my face.
  • Talk with a NARS makeup artist about blushers and tried out the exclusive colour Goulue.
  • Have a skin scan with a Balance Me skin care technician. This was really cool. You put your head in this fabric box (for lack of a better word) and you look in a mirror and your skin shows up in different shades of purple, so sun damage shows up as really dark, dehydration shows up as a darker shade, etc. Such a cool thing to see!
  • Do a cover shoot and end up with a picture of myself on a Glamour cover. Although I hate the picture, yes – too much to show anyone, it was still a fun experience!

There were loads of things I didn’t get to for one reason or another, like getting my hair styled (I had already curled my hair, note to self, don’t get yourself ready, let them do it!), a brow wax and tint by Benefit, etc.

Although I loved the make up areas, I was most excited about the speakers. Tanya Burr, Jim Chapmen, Pixiwoo, Naomi Smart, Jo Malone, Rita Ora and many many more were all giving talks. I couldn’t decide who to go for so I bought two tickets, one for the morning and one for the afternoon so I could go to two. I have to be honest, I was disappointed because you were only able to attend one main talk per ticket and choosing only two was nearly impossible. Especially when that was the main reason I had decided to go; to try to fit in as many talks as possible. In the end I choose to go to Jo Malone, Thea Green and Liz Earl in the morning and Tanya Burr in the afternoon. Both talks were really good and insightful. It’s nice to see the people we watch or hear about as real people, right in front of you. It makes you remember that they are someone like you or I, and that it is possible to accomplish something big if you put the effort in.

Overall, I am really glad that I decided to splurge and make a London weekend out of it. I wish I would have used it more to network but it was more of just a nice day out for yourself. What a fun event and I would definitely recommend attending something like this if you get the chance!

Were any of you at the Beauty Festival? If you were, let me know what you thought!
