Inside the Glamour Beauty Festival

Hello Lovelies!

As I’m sure some of you noticed, I spent this last weekend in London, a trip that was mainly to attend the Glamour Magazine Beauty Festival. It was such a great weekend and I want to share it with all of you lovely people, so here we go! (Also, check out my YouTube channel for an insider vlog!)

The Glamour Beauty Festival

About a month ago I bought a copy of Glamour in an airport to keep me occupied on the plane and came across their ads for the beauty festival. After looking through the pages, seeing what brands were going to attend and who the speakers were going to be, I decided to throw caution to the wind and book tickets when I got home. They were £50 for a half day and tickets included entry to the event, one main speaker talk, and a goodie bag worth about £160. I justified spending the money to go that way 😉 So I booked a plane ticket, convinced my boyfriend he needed a weekend in London, and packed my bags. It was very much a “look out world Shelby is headed to Glamour!” moment. Cue great music montage.

The day started early. I stayed at The Nadler Kensington (which was a great deal, in a lovely location and about 2 minutes’ walk from a tube stop, so it was so easy to get to everything!) I woke up around 7.30 and started getting ready for my big day out because I was too excited to sleep any longer. Looking back, I would have kept my makeup minimal since I could have had it done at the event, but I’m actually glad I did because I got a lot of compliments from the makeup artists, which was a nice bonus, am I right girls?! These were some of the makeup stations that filled a few of the rooms (Laura Mercier and NARS):

The event was held at the Saatchi Gallery and the venue was fantastic. They had really made the gallery Glamour. It was a crisp, clean and simple white theme with red details on the walls to tell people where to go and what was where. It really made the event feel classy and chic. How cute is this little tunnel:

I spent the day wandering around the gallery, listening to talks by the Glamour Magazine editors and having different treatments done in the treatment areas. A few of the awesome options I chose:

  • Have a one-to-one with a Laura Mercier makeup artist who gave me pointers on how to cover up the circles under my eyes and the best ways to finish and brighten my face.
  • Talk with a NARS makeup artist about blushers and tried out the exclusive colour Goulue.
  • Have a skin scan with a Balance Me skin care technician. This was really cool. You put your head in this fabric box (for lack of a better word) and you look in a mirror and your skin shows up in different shades of purple, so sun damage shows up as really dark, dehydration shows up as a darker shade, etc. Such a cool thing to see!
  • Do a cover shoot and end up with a picture of myself on a Glamour cover. Although I hate the picture, yes – too much to show anyone, it was still a fun experience!

There were loads of things I didn’t get to for one reason or another, like getting my hair styled (I had already curled my hair, note to self, don’t get yourself ready, let them do it!), a brow wax and tint by Benefit, etc.

InstagramCapture_ae636de4-0d11-464a-b93c-7576e5c024e2

Although I loved the make up areas, I was most excited about the speakers. Tanya Burr, Jim Chapmen, Pixiwoo, Naomi Smart, Jo Malone, Rita Ora and many many more were all giving talks. I couldn’t decide who to go for so I bought two tickets, one for the morning and one for the afternoon so I could go to two. I have to be honest, I was disappointed because you were only able to attend one main talk per ticket and choosing only two was nearly impossible. Especially when that was the main reason I had decided to go; to try to fit in as many talks as possible. In the end I choose to go to Jo Malone, Thea Green and Liz Earl in the morning and Tanya Burr in the afternoon. Both talks were really good and insightful. It’s nice to see the people we watch or hear about as real people, right in front of you. It makes you remember that they are someone like you or I, and that it is possible to accomplish something big if you put the effort in.

DSC00139

Overall, I am really glad that I decided to splurge and make a London weekend out of it. I wish I would have used it more to network but it was more of just a nice day out for yourself. What a fun event and I would definitely recommend attending something like this if you get the chance!

Were any of you at the Beauty Festival? If you were, let me know what you thought!

Every Day Make-Up Tutorial

Hello all!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and is ready to get back to the work-week grind. I have been so busy moving house that I haven’t really had time to think but my room is finally all set up and I have time to relax. The rest of the flat needs some attention but that will just have to wait!

Todays post is pretty special to me because my main goal is to start doing tutorials, however, I need to get up-to-scratch with the making the video aspect and I’m currently trying to self-teach. Even though I have a loooooong way to go, today I plucked up the courage to give it a go. Yeah, the lighting is off and I sound a little scared, but hey! I tried it!!! Now that the initial one is out of the way, I can keep learning and trying new things which is very exciting! I think all of your knew bloggers/vloggers out there can understand this one.

Anyway, this is an everyday makeup look that is super easy and I’ve used mainly high street brands as well, so give it a watch and tell me what you think!

Who Doesn’t Like to FeelUnique…?

Happy Thursday everyone!

Today is an exciting day because my FeelUnique order came a’knocking on my doorstep! This is the first time I have bought make-up on the internet…I’ll pause for a second while shock wears off…I really like to see the product and the size before buying typically, but I have to be honest, no matter how hard I fight it, the age of the internet has caught me in its big ole claw and here I am online shopping and blogging. Anyway, lets get to the make up!!

WP_20150813_19_09_44_Raw

Now, since the Naked Smokey pallet has just hit the UK, I know that this choice may not be too popular because…..I got the Naked 3 pallet! And I am really happy about it. I went on with the intention to buy the Smokey pallet, but my practical side kicked in and I love the colours (and I can wear them to work, like, everyday…not so much with a smokey eye). I know this is nothing new but how pretty are these colours?!

            WP_20150813_19_16_36_Raw   WP_20150813_19_14_47_Raw            WP_20150813_19_14_30_Raw   WP_20150813_19_14_15_Raw

I also got the Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer. I am not someone who typically wears a primer because I don’t even wear foundation on a day-to-day basis, I just don’t like the feel. I do, however, do my darnest to keep the cover-up on under my eyes. Due to this, I have been meaning to get a primer for so so long now and I love Benefit so here it is folks, my new primer. Ta da! It feels like it will have a nice skin feel and will be nice and light, just what I am looking for. I also have to mention the packaging….uh, how cute is that?!?! Of course, I will let y’all know what I think of the product in a few weeks time, but for now, has anyone used it? What are your thoughts??

WP_20150813_19_21_03_Raw

Lastly, and I am so excited about these bad boys, I got the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads. I have been meaning to try these for about 2 years (I know….yikes…) I always hear good things about this range but just haven’t gotten around to trying it yet, so I am so stoked that I finally can hold these babies in my hand. I think we all know what I will be doing tonight….face wipin’!

Also, as a little bonus because I spent so much money, FeelUnique threw in two little samples. I chose the Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum for myself and a little sample of the Jean Paul Gaultter Ultra-Male for my boyfriend as a little surprise (at 0.02 fl oz I really know how to spoil my man :p). Not a clue what it smells like, I’m waiting for him to give it a try first. Anyone try this out yet?

Again, let me know what you guys think of these products and let me know if there are any other products you think I should give a go! I always love hearing about what other people use!

June Favourites

Hello everybody! I am so excited about this post. I mean all of my favourite things in one place that I get to play around with and gush about…..yes!! So I think I’m going to just jump right in!

1. Lush Face Masks

I know that everyone sings their praises when it comes to Lush, everything smells so fresh and clean and it works so well. Not to mention that it is all cruelty free! This month I tried two different masks: the first was the seaweed and rose petal and this one is more more a really good moisturise and hydrate. It is also supposed to be good for a little bit older skin, perhaps some wrinkles. You guys, this mask was absolutely amazing! My skin has never in my life felt as soft as it did when I washed this bad boy off of my face. seriously, my mouth fell open and I couldn’t stop feeling my face for a good 5 minutes. Highly, highly recommend. I also tried the Blueberry, this is just a general face mask and it pretty darn nice as well. I love that there are the little chunks of blueberry in there because it just makes me feel like I am putting really natural and safe things on my skin. There is something about knowing that the product is actually good for your skin that makes it that much more likeable. I do have to point out that not all of these are vegan, so if you are trying to keep it plant based, make sure to read the ingredients since some use egg. I will definitely keep rotating through the different masks (I think I am going to go for the almondy one next, I cant remember what it is called!) but the seaweed and rose petal is currently my absolute fave. They go for about £6.75 I believe are supposed to last for 6 uses (so 2 masks per week for 3 weeks), and this is a complete steal in my opinion! I mean clearly, I have endless positive things to say about Lush….and end rant.

2. Benefit Rollerlash Mascara

So just to add to the hype and countless others who have talked about this mascara…..it is so good! Huge fan. This mascara isn’t clumpy, it really lengthens and separates the lashes and I feel like this gives more a natural look while still really vamping up any make up look. It is a bit more spendy than say the Maybelline ones (which I still love), I think it is about £19.50 at the Benefit counter in John Lewis, but it still isn’t overly expensive and it is totally worth the extra few pounds. If you haven’t yet, and need a new mascara, definitely give this one a try.

3. Pur Concealer

I haven’t really used a lot from this brand. My mom got me the concealer and some powder foundation and I fell in love with them almost immediately. I am not really a fan of liquid foundations since I can feel them on my face so a powder is my go to and this is honestly pretty darn great. It is really long wearing and I use this under my eyes to set the concealer. It stays on for ages and does an excellent job of whiting out the dark circles under my eyes. It is a 4-in-1 make up and it has SPF in it, so hello to protecting your skin without even thinking about it! The concealer is very much the same story. It is really creamy and lovely on the skin and does a very good job covering up the circles under my eyes. I also use it cover any redness around my nose and it just blends really well into the skin so it looks really natural and clean. I have these in the colour Porcelain as I am very white (I’m talking absolutely no tan what-so-ever).

4. Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Under eye corrector crayon

Oh. My. Gosh. This stuff is amazing. I just cant even (haha sorry..). As I said, I don’t like to wear liquid foundations since I just don’t like the feel of it, and this is a nice in-between job for under the eyes. Its a crayon that you just swipe on  and then blend in with a brush (or your finger) It is honestly like a little magic stick. I can throw this in my bag and it is so tiny and i don’t need to worry about remembering a brush or anything like that since i can just give it a quick blend. It is amazing for giving that highlight under the eyes as well since it is such a light colour. I believe it only comes in the one colour and I am going to go out and buy about 10 more of these. Really pleased I found this product and will definitely continue to use this one.

5. The Body Shop Body Mists

The Body Shop. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. They had a sale on this month in the shop near me and I just couldn’t resist. I was drawn in because of their new scent ‘Virgin Mojito’ since I love the smell, it is really fresh and summery and yummy (go give it a try if you can, I really don’t think you will be disappointed). While i was in I started spraying the body mists, you know, as you do when you are in the Body Shop, and I ended up coming out with three bottles. I go the Satsuma, which is a Body Shop staple in my book, the Coconut and the Brazil Nut. I have to say I am totally in love with them all but the Brazil Nut is my favourite. It is honestly so good I just want to eat it. I give myself a bath in this stuff basically before I leave the house, and it is just a light enough scent that it still inst offensive even though I am drenched in it. So amazing. Yummm! I am starting to drool just thinking about it.

6. Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Ok, I have to be honest…..this isn’t just a June favourite….this is a LIFE favourite! But since this is my first ‘favourites’ I thought I was obligated to include it. The Vanilla Cupcake scent is my fave but to be honest, I love most things Yankee Candle. The Vanilla Cupcake is something that I do keep in my house at all times though. I am still probably a good 5-7 burns away from finishing up my current candle and I have already bought a replacement for it. I cant really say a whole lot about this other than: if you haven’t already found this candle in your life, you are missing out, now go out and stick your nose in it! (That sounds kind of rude huh…? haha)

7. Soap & Glory Products

I’m not going to say a whole lot about this since my last post was solely based on these, but they have been my favourites this month so I thought I would give them a plug again. If you missed my last post about these, you can read about the products I am using here.

8. Skin Co. Truffle Gommage

This one was a complete accident of a find. I was rummaging through the skin care/beauty section of TK Maxx and came across this little treasure on sale no less. I had never heard of this before but I love truffle everything pretty much so I grabbed this up and decided to give it a go. It is basically a moisturising exfoliator. You rub this into dry skin, so I do this after I wash my face and pat dry and the little beads ex-foliate while the cream soaks in. Then you just use a damp wash cloth to remove the excess and boom, your skin feels soooooo nice! Seriously, my skin is so soft and I would recommend this to everyone. Total testimony to some of the great stuff you can find in TK Maxx and why it is therefore, my favourite store of all time.

9. Tea Tree Wipes

Picked up these babies at Superdrug and they are kind of a life savoir. So quick and easy to wipe down my face if I am feeling a little grimy. I use these in the morning right before putting on my moisturiser and make up just to make sure my face is as clean as  it possibly can be. They are tea tree so they are really good for any blemishes and sensitive skin. My only thing is that they have quite a strong/distinctive smell. I’m not opposed to it, but think its only fair to give a warning that you will smell the tea tree for a minute.

10. PINK Coconut Oil conditioning hair and body oil

Last but not least is this PINK hair and body spray. It is an oil but it is very dry so it doesn’t feel oily at all on the skin and it really works to add that extra moisture. It also makes your hair nice and shiny and it smells so nice! I am a huge fan of anything coconut so, to me, this smells delicious. I know we don’t have a Victoria’s Secret in Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter…) so it might have to be an order online thing. My mom brought this over from the states for me and I am so glad she did! I will have to get my hands on some more of this before too long!

WP_20150709_18_46_27_Raw

And now to end the longest blog post of all time! Let me know what you guys think of these products if you have tried them or if you have any suggestions of things that I should try this month. I always love hearing new ideas and what other people are loving. I hope everyone is having a great week! 🙂
