Travel Diary: A Day in London

Hello guys!

I recently took a trip down to London for a few days, and let me tell you, I had the worst luck ever! I wont bore you with all the details, instead, I will leave the link to the vlog at the bottom so you can go watch that to find out everything that went wrong!

The good thing was that I had my whole last day free, so I spent the entire day on the move and sight seeing.

My first stop was Buckingham Palace (duh…) where I had a lovely stroll through the park and then headed over to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the London Eye. Only about a 10 minute walk!

I love this area because it is so chalk full of things to see and lovely streets to walk down and parks to explore. Everything is within walking distance as well, as long as you have on some comfy shoes. If not, the tube stations are easily accessible and make it so easy to get around. Trust me when I say this because I was SO nervous about navigating the tube on my own, but with the help of a tube map on my phone, I didn’t get lost, or even slowed down, once!

I took a nice little stroll over to Trafalgar Square where I picked up some lunch from Pret and people watched. Hopefully, no one was watching me, because the wrap I was eating was extremely messy! #sonotalady

No trip to London is complete for me without a trip in to Sass & Belle in Covent Garden. It is my favorite shop so I make sure to pop in and buy something every time I’m in town. It is the cutest shabby chic shop I have ever seen. I am obsessed with it. If you are in Covent Garden, I suggest you check it out (Hint: it’s downstairs).

From there, I made my way over to the Natural History Museum. If you are in London, you have to go to AT LEAST one museum. They are free, perfect for learning something new and the buildings themselves are always amazing. I am always a fan of natural history, so that is the one I chose and I am so glad I did. There was a section on earthquakes and volcanoes, which had an earthquake shop, which simulated what it would be like to be in the shop during an earthquake. Of course I had to try it, even though I was the only one there without a child attached to my hand!!

There was also a section on dinosaurs, which, let’s be real, is everyone’s favorite part…..I loved looking at the different skeletons and learning more about them!

After spending a couple of hours pouring over the different exhibits on offer, it was time to head back to Earls Court to grab my suitcase and get back to the airport. Which, by the way, is very easy to do. It is all connected – tube, train, bus, whatever you need. I just hopped on the tube to Liverpool Street and then got the train to Stanstead. Easy Peasy!

Overall, my trip ended up on a high note, which is always good! I will be headed back to London in June, and I am planning on seeing a west end show, going to Harrods, and hanging out in Hyde Park, so I will do another post for you then with some more London Tips!

Until next time gang,

xx

London In A Day

Hi everyone!

I know my last post was about my weekend in London, but I talked too much about the Glamour Beauty Festival that I thought I should break it up and post some pictures of the rest of the weekend separately. London is too great not to share, so here is how I spent my free day.

DSC00185

Sunday was spent wandering around the city, hunting down plant-based food and trying to squeeze in as many sites as possible. I had spent a bit of time in London before and have done all of the site seeing things, but London doesn’t really get old for me and I wanted to see it all again. We started the day by heading to Camden Market to get some street food and because we wanted to find this vegan/gluten free bakery called Cookies and Scream. I had a falafel wrap for lunch which was amazing but I was really after the dessert. Take me to the sweet stuff! After quite a lot of searching we finally found Cookies and Scream, and holy cow you guys, it was so good! We got a couple of milkshakes and we couldn’t wait to dig in…..so the picture came after we had finished about half of them. Seriously you guys, if you are in that area, hunt this place down!

Next stop was Oxford street for a little shopping. I cannot tell you how much I love the Lush store there. It is massive! As in one whole floor of bath bombs. Of course I had to pick up a few (in the process forcing my bf to sniff them all haha). They have some really cute Easter themed ones at the moment, these carrots are so cute:

I also had to hit up Victoria’s Secret, because we don’t have one in Scotland, and to me, that is just unacceptable, so I made sure to make a stop there. I love their PINK range, and found another sports bra-esque top that I love. They come down a bit lower on the torso, which I find really flattering. If you love these too you can buy it here:

After our wallets had taken a little bit of a beating we wandered around St. James Park, and took some pictures of Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the London eye before heading to the airport for our flight home.

It was such a good weekend that I didn’t want it to end and am already starting to plan my next trip to London. Let me know if there is anything you think I should make sure to do on my next trip and share your London experiences with me in the comments!

Carrying Around a 10lb Weight: AKA my Handbag

Well everyone, its a new week. How do we feel? I am feeling the Monday Blues a bit but I am excited to see some more shows in the Fringe! This last weekend my boyfriend and I went to a couple; a comedy show (that wasn’t too good, but hey, it was free!) and a ballet that was set to more contemporary music, which was interesting and I love dance so I am a pretty forgiving audience member. He had planned a massage and manicure sesh as well (a keeper right??) which was such a treat! If every weekend was like this last one, I would be one happy girl! Anyway, the massage was probably the best thing ever and was well needed as my neck and back are always really stiff. After I left the spa and started wandering around town again, I got thinking, the sore neck is probably due to, oh I dont know, the monster of a handbag I lug around with me everywhere! Although I may be complaining just slightly, I am totally in love with all of my handbags and refuse to give up anything that I normally carry around. So in my handbags case, this is a burden I am willing to bear. I also thought “why not share its contents with my lovely readers?” 🙂 So lets dive on in, here are what I consider to be the essentials any girl needs in her (totally beautiful) bag. Let me know what you guys have on your “must haves” handbag list ❤

The most important thing first and the only thing worth discussing: The “make up/everything I may need bag” within the bag. I never go anywhere, and I mean anywhere, without this little pouch of joy. I actually feel stressed if I go somewhere without it. It basically just puts my mind at ease that, with this bag, I will be prepared for most scenarios. Here is what it looks like:

WP_20150810_21_12_57_Raw

So in here I have some mini hand and face wipes (which have come in handy a lot more than you may think, ha! handy…), a Maybelline FIT me concealer tube, a mini-brush from Maybelline, perfume tube (this one is Candies), a tampon (I mean, duh!), a chap stick (cocoa butter with SPF, my all-time fave), Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer in Ginger Bread, a mini MAC mascara, a little hydrating face spray and some good ole vitamin D pills (aka my happy pills because, you know, Scotland never sees the sun…). I normally also have a de-tangler hair brush in here, but I have switched from a Body Shop bag to this Birchbag which is a bit smaller, so the brush has been demoted to just living in the purse itself. Aaaaaaaand I think that’s all. I know I am missing a little lotion but I think I am pretty well covered otherwise!

A bit of a closer view, bit boring visually but you get the idea right??

WP_20150810_21_14_26_Raw

On to the not as exciting stuff:

– I also always carry an umbrella. Where I come from, the “rainy state” as we like to call it, no one uses an umbrella, but hey, we do in Edinburgh, so I am never caught out without one.

-An extra carrier bag: since Scotland has started the 5p charge for carrier bags, I almost always have one in my bag. This one is from Lush, I think it is so cute!

-Extra hair tie, lip colour of the day, portable charger and headphones…ta daaaa!

                                                                 WP_20150810_21_20_57_Raw  WP_20150810_21_23_06_Raw

Well all, that is what my everyday burden consists of and I tell you what….it is heavy but I just don’t think I could survive without it! What do you think? I am curious to know what you carry around with you everyday, so do share!

xx

A Weekend In A Castle

Hello everybody!

How is everyone’s Tuesday going? The weather here has been pretty shocking and I cant tell if it makes the days go by faster or shorter… But this rainy weather is making m nostalgic of my weekend a few weeks ago that I got to spend at Melville Castle just outside of Edinburgh. The weather was fantastic and the castle was beautiful, set out in the country and so peaceful. We ate dinner and had a bottle of wine (just a warning — not vegan friendly, but they tried their best!) and did some Lush facemasks and had a really lovely time. Such a nice break! My mom and I went a little crazy with pictures and taking video so I thought I would try my hand at putting together a video. You guys…real talk…its hard!! and I could use some serious help if anyone has any tips or pointers 🙂 (please! I seriously need some work hehe) Anyway, take a peek at my weekend at Melville castle (p.s. it was very Forever 21 and H&M themed)

Friday: Mint Velvet trousers, lace sleeved top from Forever 21 (I think), black booties from Garage (I call them my kick around shoes haha) and an H&M dress for dinner

Saturday: Forever 21 Jeans (the fit on these is amazing and so cheap!), Forever 21 lace cami, H&M cardigan

June Favourites

Hello everybody! I am so excited about this post. I mean all of my favourite things in one place that I get to play around with and gush about…..yes!! So I think I’m going to just jump right in!

1. Lush Face Masks

I know that everyone sings their praises when it comes to Lush, everything smells so fresh and clean and it works so well. Not to mention that it is all cruelty free! This month I tried two different masks: the first was the seaweed and rose petal and this one is more more a really good moisturise and hydrate. It is also supposed to be good for a little bit older skin, perhaps some wrinkles. You guys, this mask was absolutely amazing! My skin has never in my life felt as soft as it did when I washed this bad boy off of my face. seriously, my mouth fell open and I couldn’t stop feeling my face for a good 5 minutes. Highly, highly recommend. I also tried the Blueberry, this is just a general face mask and it pretty darn nice as well. I love that there are the little chunks of blueberry in there because it just makes me feel like I am putting really natural and safe things on my skin. There is something about knowing that the product is actually good for your skin that makes it that much more likeable. I do have to point out that not all of these are vegan, so if you are trying to keep it plant based, make sure to read the ingredients since some use egg. I will definitely keep rotating through the different masks (I think I am going to go for the almondy one next, I cant remember what it is called!) but the seaweed and rose petal is currently my absolute fave. They go for about £6.75 I believe are supposed to last for 6 uses (so 2 masks per week for 3 weeks), and this is a complete steal in my opinion! I mean clearly, I have endless positive things to say about Lush….and end rant.

2. Benefit Rollerlash Mascara

So just to add to the hype and countless others who have talked about this mascara…..it is so good! Huge fan. This mascara isn’t clumpy, it really lengthens and separates the lashes and I feel like this gives more a natural look while still really vamping up any make up look. It is a bit more spendy than say the Maybelline ones (which I still love), I think it is about £19.50 at the Benefit counter in John Lewis, but it still isn’t overly expensive and it is totally worth the extra few pounds. If you haven’t yet, and need a new mascara, definitely give this one a try.

3. Pur Concealer

I haven’t really used a lot from this brand. My mom got me the concealer and some powder foundation and I fell in love with them almost immediately. I am not really a fan of liquid foundations since I can feel them on my face so a powder is my go to and this is honestly pretty darn great. It is really long wearing and I use this under my eyes to set the concealer. It stays on for ages and does an excellent job of whiting out the dark circles under my eyes. It is a 4-in-1 make up and it has SPF in it, so hello to protecting your skin without even thinking about it! The concealer is very much the same story. It is really creamy and lovely on the skin and does a very good job covering up the circles under my eyes. I also use it cover any redness around my nose and it just blends really well into the skin so it looks really natural and clean. I have these in the colour Porcelain as I am very white (I’m talking absolutely no tan what-so-ever).

4. Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Under eye corrector crayon

Oh. My. Gosh. This stuff is amazing. I just cant even (haha sorry..). As I said, I don’t like to wear liquid foundations since I just don’t like the feel of it, and this is a nice in-between job for under the eyes. Its a crayon that you just swipe on  and then blend in with a brush (or your finger) It is honestly like a little magic stick. I can throw this in my bag and it is so tiny and i don’t need to worry about remembering a brush or anything like that since i can just give it a quick blend. It is amazing for giving that highlight under the eyes as well since it is such a light colour. I believe it only comes in the one colour and I am going to go out and buy about 10 more of these. Really pleased I found this product and will definitely continue to use this one.

5. The Body Shop Body Mists

The Body Shop. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. They had a sale on this month in the shop near me and I just couldn’t resist. I was drawn in because of their new scent ‘Virgin Mojito’ since I love the smell, it is really fresh and summery and yummy (go give it a try if you can, I really don’t think you will be disappointed). While i was in I started spraying the body mists, you know, as you do when you are in the Body Shop, and I ended up coming out with three bottles. I go the Satsuma, which is a Body Shop staple in my book, the Coconut and the Brazil Nut. I have to say I am totally in love with them all but the Brazil Nut is my favourite. It is honestly so good I just want to eat it. I give myself a bath in this stuff basically before I leave the house, and it is just a light enough scent that it still inst offensive even though I am drenched in it. So amazing. Yummm! I am starting to drool just thinking about it.

6. Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Ok, I have to be honest…..this isn’t just a June favourite….this is a LIFE favourite! But since this is my first ‘favourites’ I thought I was obligated to include it. The Vanilla Cupcake scent is my fave but to be honest, I love most things Yankee Candle. The Vanilla Cupcake is something that I do keep in my house at all times though. I am still probably a good 5-7 burns away from finishing up my current candle and I have already bought a replacement for it. I cant really say a whole lot about this other than: if you haven’t already found this candle in your life, you are missing out, now go out and stick your nose in it! (That sounds kind of rude huh…? haha)

7. Soap & Glory Products

I’m not going to say a whole lot about this since my last post was solely based on these, but they have been my favourites this month so I thought I would give them a plug again. If you missed my last post about these, you can read about the products I am using here.

8. Skin Co. Truffle Gommage

This one was a complete accident of a find. I was rummaging through the skin care/beauty section of TK Maxx and came across this little treasure on sale no less. I had never heard of this before but I love truffle everything pretty much so I grabbed this up and decided to give it a go. It is basically a moisturising exfoliator. You rub this into dry skin, so I do this after I wash my face and pat dry and the little beads ex-foliate while the cream soaks in. Then you just use a damp wash cloth to remove the excess and boom, your skin feels soooooo nice! Seriously, my skin is so soft and I would recommend this to everyone. Total testimony to some of the great stuff you can find in TK Maxx and why it is therefore, my favourite store of all time.

9. Tea Tree Wipes

Picked up these babies at Superdrug and they are kind of a life savoir. So quick and easy to wipe down my face if I am feeling a little grimy. I use these in the morning right before putting on my moisturiser and make up just to make sure my face is as clean as  it possibly can be. They are tea tree so they are really good for any blemishes and sensitive skin. My only thing is that they have quite a strong/distinctive smell. I’m not opposed to it, but think its only fair to give a warning that you will smell the tea tree for a minute.

10. PINK Coconut Oil conditioning hair and body oil

Last but not least is this PINK hair and body spray. It is an oil but it is very dry so it doesn’t feel oily at all on the skin and it really works to add that extra moisture. It also makes your hair nice and shiny and it smells so nice! I am a huge fan of anything coconut so, to me, this smells delicious. I know we don’t have a Victoria’s Secret in Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter…) so it might have to be an order online thing. My mom brought this over from the states for me and I am so glad she did! I will have to get my hands on some more of this before too long!

And now to end the longest blog post of all time! Let me know what you guys think of these products if you have tried them or if you have any suggestions of things that I should try this month. I always love hearing new ideas and what other people are loving. I hope everyone is having a great week! 🙂
