Review: Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara

We all know mascara is my have-to-have makeup item. I just don’t feel myself without a coat (ok, maybe three coats…) of mascara on my lashes. I am forever searching for the best mascaras to plump up my lashes and open my eyes up. I have tried so many mascaras and have become quite picky with them.

Today, I thought I’d give you my thoughts on the Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes mascara.

image3

For starters, the main thing that stands out for this one is the applicator wand. It is small and spherical, instead of the long ones you normally get. I quite like this because, yes it takes a bit longer, but it allows you to be very precise and get every little lash, without getting mascara all over your eye lids.

image4

I have also found that this product is quite lengthening, but I do put on a couple of coats to get it to how I like it.

image1

The negatives, it does take a little longer to put on. This isn’t really a quick swipe and go product. It is also a bit more pricy at £24, so I would say this is more of a treat yourself kind of thing, but I do love having it as an option in my mascara bag (yes, I do have a cosmetics bag just for mascara…..don’t judge me!) I do think that you can get other mascaras that will work just as well from a high street brand, so if you aren’t in the market for a pricy mascara, have no fear, you will find some pretty fab ones at Superdrug.

image2

Overall, I give this product a thumbs up because it goes on easily, it does lengthen my lashes and gives me an ‘eyes wide open’ look, which I love and I do really like the smaller applicator wand.

Let me know if you like this product too, or if you don’t think it’s worth the money.

Until next time gang,

xx

New Found Loves: Lip Colours

Happy October everybody!

I cannot believe how fast this year is going! I feel like it was January yesterday. With the transition to winter, I really wanted to get some new lip colours, so over the weekend, I threw on my trusty flats and walked my way up to Superdrug, with a quick stop in H&M. I went with the intention of getting some nice, Kylie Jenner inspired, dark lip colours and ended up coming out with a couple dark and a couple light. I wish I had gotten a picture of my hand when I left the store because after trying literally every single dark (and some light) shades, I had absolutely no space on my hand at all. It was like a lipstick mosaic! It was worth it though, because I have ended up with 4 colours that I am absolutely in love with!

The first one I picked up was this Dark Chocolate stick from Max Factor. It is a really lovely dark brown colour with a slight reddy undertone. Its not so dark that it makes people do a double take but it just a really nice cozy look, perfect for the cooler days.

The next one I picked up was actually on accident. Im sure you can guess that I watch YouTube, and I know that Tanya Burr has her own cosmetics line (you go girl!) , but for whatever reason, I just havent bought any of her range, until now. I found myself in front of her stand in Superdrug because I have heard a lot of good things about her nail polish and wanted to pick up Duvet Day (but it was all out!) So I started checking out her other products and ended up grabbing this lip gloss in the shade Lunch Date, and I love it! I am not really a lip gloss fan because they tend to be a bit more sticky, but I really like this colour. Its subtle and classy and it is a great go-to for everyday.

I also stopped in at H&M (with no intention of buying make-up mind you) and picked up this colour as well. I know I had the intention of getting some really dark shades, but I don’t really have any nude shades either, so this one kind of jumped out at me, and it was on sale so I thought “oh go on…it can’t hurt…” I’m looking forward to wearing this on days that I have really focused on my eyes and want a more subtle look for the lips.

WP_20150927_17_22_52_Raw

The final colour that I got was this one by Maybelline. This one is definitely my favourite so far. It is the shade I have been waiting for. It goes on really matte which I don’t like, but it has a gloss end to liven it up a bit. The best thing about this colour is that it literally does not move from your lips. I’ve worn this a couple of times now and I put it on in the morning, eat, drink, touch my lips, kiss, etc and at the end of the day, I still have to scrub my lips with makeup remover to get it off. Its amazing! As of right now, this is my favourite lip colour I own.

I hope everyone had a good start to the week. Until next time lovelies!

June Favourites

Hello everybody! I am so excited about this post. I mean all of my favourite things in one place that I get to play around with and gush about…..yes!! So I think I’m going to just jump right in!

1. Lush Face Masks

I know that everyone sings their praises when it comes to Lush, everything smells so fresh and clean and it works so well. Not to mention that it is all cruelty free! This month I tried two different masks: the first was the seaweed and rose petal and this one is more more a really good moisturise and hydrate. It is also supposed to be good for a little bit older skin, perhaps some wrinkles. You guys, this mask was absolutely amazing! My skin has never in my life felt as soft as it did when I washed this bad boy off of my face. seriously, my mouth fell open and I couldn’t stop feeling my face for a good 5 minutes. Highly, highly recommend. I also tried the Blueberry, this is just a general face mask and it pretty darn nice as well. I love that there are the little chunks of blueberry in there because it just makes me feel like I am putting really natural and safe things on my skin. There is something about knowing that the product is actually good for your skin that makes it that much more likeable. I do have to point out that not all of these are vegan, so if you are trying to keep it plant based, make sure to read the ingredients since some use egg. I will definitely keep rotating through the different masks (I think I am going to go for the almondy one next, I cant remember what it is called!) but the seaweed and rose petal is currently my absolute fave. They go for about £6.75 I believe are supposed to last for 6 uses (so 2 masks per week for 3 weeks), and this is a complete steal in my opinion! I mean clearly, I have endless positive things to say about Lush….and end rant.

2. Benefit Rollerlash Mascara

So just to add to the hype and countless others who have talked about this mascara…..it is so good! Huge fan. This mascara isn’t clumpy, it really lengthens and separates the lashes and I feel like this gives more a natural look while still really vamping up any make up look. It is a bit more spendy than say the Maybelline ones (which I still love), I think it is about £19.50 at the Benefit counter in John Lewis, but it still isn’t overly expensive and it is totally worth the extra few pounds. If you haven’t yet, and need a new mascara, definitely give this one a try.

3. Pur Concealer

I haven’t really used a lot from this brand. My mom got me the concealer and some powder foundation and I fell in love with them almost immediately. I am not really a fan of liquid foundations since I can feel them on my face so a powder is my go to and this is honestly pretty darn great. It is really long wearing and I use this under my eyes to set the concealer. It stays on for ages and does an excellent job of whiting out the dark circles under my eyes. It is a 4-in-1 make up and it has SPF in it, so hello to protecting your skin without even thinking about it! The concealer is very much the same story. It is really creamy and lovely on the skin and does a very good job covering up the circles under my eyes. I also use it cover any redness around my nose and it just blends really well into the skin so it looks really natural and clean. I have these in the colour Porcelain as I am very white (I’m talking absolutely no tan what-so-ever).

4. Max Factor CC Colour Corrector Under eye corrector crayon

Oh. My. Gosh. This stuff is amazing. I just cant even (haha sorry..). As I said, I don’t like to wear liquid foundations since I just don’t like the feel of it, and this is a nice in-between job for under the eyes. Its a crayon that you just swipe on  and then blend in with a brush (or your finger) It is honestly like a little magic stick. I can throw this in my bag and it is so tiny and i don’t need to worry about remembering a brush or anything like that since i can just give it a quick blend. It is amazing for giving that highlight under the eyes as well since it is such a light colour. I believe it only comes in the one colour and I am going to go out and buy about 10 more of these. Really pleased I found this product and will definitely continue to use this one.

5. The Body Shop Body Mists

The Body Shop. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. They had a sale on this month in the shop near me and I just couldn’t resist. I was drawn in because of their new scent ‘Virgin Mojito’ since I love the smell, it is really fresh and summery and yummy (go give it a try if you can, I really don’t think you will be disappointed). While i was in I started spraying the body mists, you know, as you do when you are in the Body Shop, and I ended up coming out with three bottles. I go the Satsuma, which is a Body Shop staple in my book, the Coconut and the Brazil Nut. I have to say I am totally in love with them all but the Brazil Nut is my favourite. It is honestly so good I just want to eat it. I give myself a bath in this stuff basically before I leave the house, and it is just a light enough scent that it still inst offensive even though I am drenched in it. So amazing. Yummm! I am starting to drool just thinking about it.

6. Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake

Ok, I have to be honest…..this isn’t just a June favourite….this is a LIFE favourite! But since this is my first ‘favourites’ I thought I was obligated to include it. The Vanilla Cupcake scent is my fave but to be honest, I love most things Yankee Candle. The Vanilla Cupcake is something that I do keep in my house at all times though. I am still probably a good 5-7 burns away from finishing up my current candle and I have already bought a replacement for it. I cant really say a whole lot about this other than: if you haven’t already found this candle in your life, you are missing out, now go out and stick your nose in it! (That sounds kind of rude huh…? haha)

7. Soap & Glory Products

I’m not going to say a whole lot about this since my last post was solely based on these, but they have been my favourites this month so I thought I would give them a plug again. If you missed my last post about these, you can read about the products I am using here.

8. Skin Co. Truffle Gommage

This one was a complete accident of a find. I was rummaging through the skin care/beauty section of TK Maxx and came across this little treasure on sale no less. I had never heard of this before but I love truffle everything pretty much so I grabbed this up and decided to give it a go. It is basically a moisturising exfoliator. You rub this into dry skin, so I do this after I wash my face and pat dry and the little beads ex-foliate while the cream soaks in. Then you just use a damp wash cloth to remove the excess and boom, your skin feels soooooo nice! Seriously, my skin is so soft and I would recommend this to everyone. Total testimony to some of the great stuff you can find in TK Maxx and why it is therefore, my favourite store of all time.

9. Tea Tree Wipes

Picked up these babies at Superdrug and they are kind of a life savoir. So quick and easy to wipe down my face if I am feeling a little grimy. I use these in the morning right before putting on my moisturiser and make up just to make sure my face is as clean as  it possibly can be. They are tea tree so they are really good for any blemishes and sensitive skin. My only thing is that they have quite a strong/distinctive smell. I’m not opposed to it, but think its only fair to give a warning that you will smell the tea tree for a minute.

10. PINK Coconut Oil conditioning hair and body oil

Last but not least is this PINK hair and body spray. It is an oil but it is very dry so it doesn’t feel oily at all on the skin and it really works to add that extra moisture. It also makes your hair nice and shiny and it smells so nice! I am a huge fan of anything coconut so, to me, this smells delicious. I know we don’t have a Victoria’s Secret in Edinburgh (or Scotland for that matter…) so it might have to be an order online thing. My mom brought this over from the states for me and I am so glad she did! I will have to get my hands on some more of this before too long!

Lottie London Brush Set First Impressions

Hello everybody!

So I have developed a really spendy habit of walking myself up to the St. James Centre during my lunch break for some light shopping. I normally end up searching through the makeup and forgetting to actually eat lunch (not recommended! ha).  During a recent Boots and Superdrug raid I came across the new Lottie London line as I was perusing the shelves. I wasn’t intending to buy new brushes but I saw these and thought “oh hello pretties!” I mean look at them…how cute are they?! And I love how the tips of the brushes match the handle colour. Genius. So I decided to give them a go and thought I would share my first impressions with you in case you too are enticed by ultra cute brushes 🙂

The concealer brush: Ok, so the first brush, and the one I have used the most is the concealer brush. It is just he right size for me to dab out the dark circles under my eyes or the redness around my nose. The brush is really soft as well so its really nice for those sensitive areas!

WP_20150624_12_29_26_Raw

The foundation brush: I’ve been pretty pleased with this so far. I love the colour of this one, so that might make me a little biased….but  doubt it. Again, it is so soft and blends really well, so while some of my brushes (like my bare minerals brushes) leave my skin feeling like they have been slightly assaulted, this one is jut soft that I actually enjoy the blending and frankly, that is a breath of fresh air.

WP_20150624_12_28_58_Raw
Excuse the clearly worn in brush…but what can I say…I’ve been using it a lot..! 🙂

The crease brush: This one is a little textured and is great for blending eye shadows to soften up a look and to add some contrast in the crease. I’ve not used this one as much as the others but I think it will come out more on the weekends when I actually focus on doing some killer eye looks.

WP_20150624_11_50_01_Raw

The angle brush: I’ve used this one for doing more of a smoky eye. It’s good for lining the eye with a shadow and I think this is going to be my smoky eye go-to brush, especially for lining the lower lashes. Also, another favourite colour!

WP_20150624_11_50_29_Raw

The powder brush: It’s so big and fluffy, every time I pick it up and have to stop myself from pulling an Agnes “IT’S SO FLUFFY!” from Despicable Me.  I have used this one for powder a couple of times which I like as its just a nice big brush so all over face is ideal. I do think I’m going to start using this with my bronzer though to get a very soft kind of sun kissed look. I think the big and fluffy will be ideal for adding a little bit of all over colour.

WP_20150624_11_49_27_Raw

Overall, I am pretty darn happy with these brushes. I really like how they look and they are just fun to have in my brush pot. I am a huge fan of the fact that they are totally animal friendly. So far they seem to good quality for the price and I’m happy with the purchase. Right now I don’t think I can say they are the same as some of the high end brushes but I don’t expect them to be at their killer price. I am really happy that I decided to try these out and certainly recommend giving these a try! Happy hump day all! Hang on a couple more days ’till the weekend, we can do it!
